Memberships types:

 

Paralegal - $120.00 per year

Paralegal Members are individuals who are currently employed as a paralegal, and meet the following requirements:

a)  hold a certificate, diploma or degree issued by a post-secondary institution recognized by provincial legislation in Alberta, or a post-secondary institution recognized by the Association; and

b)  has been employed as a paralegal for a minimum of 5 years (performing substantive legal work), certified in writing by a supervising member of the Law Society of Alberta.

Paralegal Members have voting privileges.

Independent Paralegal - $120.00 per year

Independent Paralegal Members are individuals who practice independently within a limited scope. In addition to the requirements listed in the Paralegal membership category, proof of valid Practice and Errors & Omissions insurance is required for this membership category.
Independent Paralegals have voting privileges.

Legal Support Professional - $100.00 per year

Legal Support Professional Members are qualified legal support professionals (legal assistants, legal admin assistants, Law Clerks, etc)

a) who have completed a Certificate or Diploma program recognized by the Association; or

b) have been employed for a minimum of 2 years as a legal support professional.

Legal Support Professional Members have voting privileges

Student - $20.00 per year

Students Members are in full-time or part-time studies, in a legal assistant or paralegal program at an institution recognized by the provincial legislation in Alberta, and recognized by the Association.
Student Members do not have voting privileges.

Affiliate - $100.00 per year

Affiliate Members are individuals who meet the requirements of one of the following categories:

a)  a member of the Law Society of Alberta, or any other law society in Canada at the discretion of the Board;

b)  a member of an educational institution approved by the Board endorsing legal support professionals, Legal Assistants and Paralegals, at the discretion of the Board.

Affiliate members do not have voting privileges

Corporate - $300.00 per year

A Corporate Member is any organization or corporation which supports the purposes of the Association.  A Corporate Member shall be represented by a single individual and is not intended to provide a means for a law firm  to extend membership privileges to employees who would otherwise qualify for membership under another category.
Corporate Members do not have voting privileges.

Alumni - $100.00 per year

This category of membership is reserved for existing AAPP members who have retired from the profession, but wish to maintain their membership with the association.

Alumni Members have voting privileges.

​

Bundled Memberships

If an employer enrolls more than 2 employees for either a legal support or paralegal membership, a discount will be applied to membership fees.  Discounts will be applied as:

2-10 members - 10%

11-29 members - 20%

30-49 members - 30%

50 or more members - 40%
